Dr. Tim McAfee, Director, Office on Smoking and Health, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, CDC, was recently asked to describe the lessons earned over the past 20 years that quitlines must carry forward into the next 20 years. To be effective, he says, quitlines must pay close attention to the caller experience from start to finish, must base protocols on science, implement consistent training, and continually improve upon methodology.
