Erin Thompson Curlett, Content & Social Media Marketing Manager:
We are very pleased to announce that our September webinar, Mobile Apps, Text Messages, and Social Media: Can They Really Help Smokers Quit? will be presented by Dr. Lorien C. Abroms, lead designer of Text2Quit(SM), the latest enhancement to our industry-leading Quit For Life® Program.
Dr. Abroms is an assistant professor of Prevention and Community Health at The George Washington University (GW) School of Public Health and Health Services. Dr. Abroms' research focuses on the application of communication technologies—including emails, text messaging, and smartphone apps—for smoking cessation and other health behaviors. She has developed and evaluated a widely distributed smoking cessation kit for young adults smokers called the X-Pack, awarded the Best Materials Award by the Public Health Education and Health Promotion (PHEHP) Section of American Public Health Association. Notably, she also developed and is evaluating the Text2Quit(SM) Program, an evidence-based, interactive text messaging suite developed for smoking cessation, which will be offered as a part of our own Quit For Life® Program starting in early 2012.
Prior to joining the faculty at GW in 2004, Dr. Abroms received her doctorate from the Harvard School of Public Health and was a post-doc at the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development. In 2008, she was awarded the Early Career Award by the Public Health Education and Health Promotion (PHEHP) Section of the American Public Health Association.
