Host an Onsite Farmers Market

Participants in Free & Clear's Mind & Body™ Program are taught that one of the easiest things you can do to improve nutrition is to increase your daily consumption of fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, it is often difficult for people to access fresh produce, especially during the workday and in urban environments. Ask Sandi

Question: Our wellness committee has decided to revamp our vending machine offerings. In your opinion, what is the most important factor to consider?

Answer: It's important to consider the beverages you’re offering in your vending machines. Soda and juices containing refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup are some of the biggest dietary challenges for many people. Empty calories from refined sugars add up quickly and contribute to increased appetite and weight gain. Ideally, at least 50% of the beverages in your vending machines should consist of natural or sparkling water, low-fat or nonfat milk, and 100% fruit and vegetable juices with no added sweeteners.

The representative that I spoke with was helpful and gave me some excellent ideas on what to do when the cravings kicked in. I began to exercise and walk in the evenings, something I would have never done (as a smoker) to help ease the cravings.

I highly recommend your program. I now smell good, my teeth are clean, and when I talk to a smoker, the smell of their breath really is offensive. I never noticed all those things when I smoked. So I thank you for being there and I just wanted to tell you what you teach works.
