Cancer & Lifestyle Webinar News Thumb

Epidemiological studies have shown that 75 to 85 percent of all cancers are caused by environmental exposures, and of those, lifestyle-related factors are the most important and preventable. Tobacco use, poor nutrition, physical inactivity and alcohol consumption, common vices of the modern Western lifestyle, have infiltrated global culture and significantly contributed to the worldwide prevalence of cancer.

Thomas J. Glynn, PhD, director for cancer science and trends in international cancer control, present the Clear Insights complimentary webinar, "Cancer & Lifestyle: How Employers Can Help Fight Cancer through the Promotion of Healthy Behaviors." In this presentation, Dr. Glynn discussed the Western lifestyle and its relationship to cancer, as well as the practical strategies that individuals and employers can use to adopt and promote healthier behaviors.

Ask Sandi

Question: What is the best way to convince our staff to integrate more physical activity into their day?

Answer: For many people, knowing all of the health benefits of physical activity is not enough to get them working out on a regular basis. It's important to emphasize the other benefits that so often come with exercise: this could be the social benefit that is present when coworkers exercise together, or the beauty of nature that they enjoy when they take a lunch break walk outdoors. When people view exercise as a gift to themselves, they are more likely to want to move their bodies on a regular basis. And then they can discover the unexpected benefits of exercise, like better sleep and reduced stress. Read more about finding enjoyment in exercise in my blog post here.
