Alere Wellbeing Announces Weight Talk®

Alere Wellbeing launches a new personalized weight loss program for sustained behavior change

Weight Talk Logo Thumb

We are happy to announce the launch of Weight Talk®, our new behavioral weight loss program designed for employers looking to mitigate obesity-related healthcare costs and productivity losses.

Weight Talk®is a personal coaching program that guides participants in setting realistic weight loss goals and helps them develop the skills needed to achieve these goals. Through bi-weekly phone coaching sessions, supplemented by web-based learning, tracking, and social support, participants learn how the decisions they make each day can impact their weight and how small, simple changes can lead to major physical and psychological improvements. With the help of a dedicated coach, program participants develop personalized nutrition and physical activity plans. They then learn to master The 8 Essential Practices, which are a set of behavioral focus areas that address such topics as body image, emotional eating, sleep quality, stress, time management, environmental control, and cognitive dissonance.

Ask Sandi

Question: The holiday season can be a stressful time, and we find that many of our employees are overwhelmed by December. How can we best support our employees over the next couple of months?

Answer: It’s true that the holiday season can be a stressful time, both professionally and personally. Your employees are likely trying to wrap up projects before taking time off (not to mention trying to find time to shop for presents to wrap!). This is a great time of year to remind your staff of the resources you provide, such as your EAP. Encourage stretch breaks and remind employees of the importance of physical activity - not only to fight off those holiday pounds, but also to help with stress management.  Consider providing your employees with the gift of onsite workshops - ask a mindfulness expert to lead a stress reduction session or an exercise specialist to lead an onsite stretching class. It's also a great time of year to host an informal staff party - encourage people to bring healthy holiday treats to share and celebrate the end of another great year. Good luck and Happy Holidays!
